Red Dead Redemption 2 Should Bring Back the Series’ Western Minigames

Holding L2 or LT, depending on your system, and clicking in the left joystick will prod Arthur into giving your horse a reassuring pat on the head/neck, which keeps your horse reasonable and gains a little bit more of your horse’s tr

You can find a horse out in the wild and tame them, or you can buy a new horse at a stable. Either way, be sure to study your new horse and learn what you can about them. And remember that, whatever horse you choose, they’re embarking on this new journey with you. They’re putting their trust in you. You’re becoming their new best fri

a woman in a top hat with blood on her faceAlongside the numerous missions, side quests, and random encounters that players in Red Dead Redemption could find, the map was also littered with a handful of Western minigames that could be played at your pleasure: Blackjack, Poker, Horseshoes, Liar’s Dice, and Arm Wrestling. While there were specific goals tied to each of the games that would contribute to a 100% completion in the game, the minigames by themselves were largely optional and inconsequential, in the grand scheme of things. Of course, many of the minigames also carried with them some significant rewards in the form of cold hard cash; Liar’s Dice in particular was a game that could be pretty financially lucrative, if you knew how to play the table right. But more than that, the minigames in Red Dead Redemption felt deeper than just fun distractions from the main story of John Marston.

As the saying goes, “there’s plenty of fish in the sea.” The same can more or less be said of Red Dead Redemption 2 : there are plenty of horses in the Old West. You’ve got a lot of different options when it comes to who you choose to be your traveling companion, and whatever horse you choose, they’ll be sure to appreciate the gesture. The more you use the same horse, doing just about anything, the more your horse is going to trust you. And in the same vein, the more you use the same horse, the more you may grow to trust the ho

Great games are no stranger to some of the biggest bugs. Sometimes ambition can be a curse, and when you’re doing something that’s never been done before, you’re bound to hit some bumps along the way. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most inventive games ever made , and so it follows that there are some seriously strange bugs that have slipped through the cra

Minigames in open-world titles, by most accounts, can serve as bite-sized bits of variety in-between missions or while traveling across the map; good for some mild distraction, but usually not much more. But in the rare occasions, minigames like these can add a surprising amount to the believability and depth of a world beyond just its map size and scale. Given that I put in as much time into The Witcher 3 ‘s Gwent as I did in most other games by themselves, there’s certainly something to be said that when done well, open world minigames can add so much more to a believable game world in their own right. And inside the game’s world drenched in the imagery and themes of the Wild West, Red Dead Redemption ‘s minigames were definitely some of the best examples of that extra level of detail and immersion.

Okay, maybe not, but your horse is going to get hungry. And just like Arthur, the hungrier your horse gets, the lower its cores are going to stoop. You can feed your horse a lot of different things that Arthur could eat himself, but not quite everything. Some of the best and most easily obtainable stuff to give your horse seems to be carrots and apples. They rejuvenate your horse much more than they rejuvenate Arthur, and what way better is there to gain a new companion than sharing a snack with t

When a weapon takes its name from one of the most violent forces of nature, you know it’s going to pack a punch. The Volcanic Pistol does not disappoint. It deals, by a long way, the most damage of any pistol in the game, firing off round after round of red-hot death. Its only real downside is a fairly slow fire rate and a very low reload speed. However, if you’re using it at close range, especially with Express rounds, this gun can take down even the most fierce f

Make your enemies say night, night, with Midnight’s Pistol. Received as part of the stranger mission “The Noblest Of Men And A Woman,” Billy’s pistol has a dark past. However, despite its huge number of uses over the years, boy does it still work. The pistol, a variant of the semi-auto, does standard damage, to begin with, but persist with it, and you’ll gain affinity. Once you’ve done this, its damage skyrockets. Its damage becomes one of the highest of the game’s pistols, while also having an exceptionally quick reload t

It does seem like there will occasionally be a warning of the danger to come, though. A horse with an erect tail standing on the road can be a sign of imminent combustion, so if you happen to see one, get re

Red Dead Redemption 2 Roleplay Dead Redemption 2 has some of the best shotguns I’ve ever used in recent years, and chief among them (at least in terms of standard weapons), is the pump-action. Packing a ridiculous amount of punch, whether loaded with regular ammo or slugs, it’s also got a fairly decent range on it. The fire rate is good, and if you get a shot in on someone’s head or one of their limbs, then uh…things aren’t looking at all good for t
